The Lost Children of Israel

The title of the work, The Lost Children of Israel, is the name of a
religious congregation, also called Great Millstone, founded in the beginning of the 90s in the United
States; later on they expaded and founded new groups also in Europe. Their activities, through public
readings and meetings, aims to spread their interpretation of the Bible and the Apocryphal writings. Such interpretations are contaminated by Pan-Africanism, African American culture, mixed with elements from
dystopian sci-fi movies, internet culture and various conspiracy theories. The
video was filmed in September 2015 in Bijlmer, the southeast area of Amsterdam,
where 70% of the population is constituted by immigrants from former Dutch
colonies.

Il titolo del lavoro, The Lost Children of Israel, è il nome di una congregazione religiosa e cospirativa, chiamata anche Great Millstone, nata negli Stati Uniti durante la prima metà degli anni ’90, poi diffusasi in Europa. La loro attività è volta alla divulgazione dei contenuti della Bibbia e degli scritti apocrifi attraverso letture pubbliche, in cui l’interpretazione del messaggio religioso è contaminata da elementi provenienti dalla cultura afroamericana, dal panafricanismo, dal cinema di fantascienza, internet culture e teorie del complotto. Il video è stato girato a settembre 2015 a Bijlmer, quartiere a sud-est di Amsterdam popolato per il 70% da immigrati provenienti da ex-colonie olandesi.
