The Battle of Bijlmer is an event that took place on the 2nd of October 2015 at the nr. 42 of Florijn in Amsterdam-Zuidoost during the artist in residence program at BijlmAIR (CBK, FLAT STATION and STEDELIJK MUSEUM BUREAU AMSTERDAM). The event, a contest of freestyle-rap, was realized through an open-call for rappers in the neighborhood of Bijlmer and other areas of the city. Rappers of different nationalities and origins responded to the open call and challenged each other in a rap battle, with the only limit of using their native language during the competition. The battle was based on improvised rhymes and ended with a winner appointed by the audience. About 86.000 people cohabit in the Bijlmer, a densely populated area of Amsterdam Southeast. Only the 30% of the inhabitants is Dutch, while the rest of the people is split into 130 different nationalities that share buildings, schools, sport stadiums, supermarkets and music.

The Battle of Bijlmer è un evento tenutosi il 2 ottobre 2015 al civico n.42 del Florijn, un edificio popolare nel quartiere di Amsterdam-Zuidoost, durante il programma di residenza per artisti BijlmAIR (CBK, FLAT STATION and STEDELIJK MUSEUM BUREAU AMSTERDAM).
L’evento, un contest di freestyle-rap, è stato realizzato tramite un’open call rivolta a rapper del quartiere di Bijlmer e delle zone circostanti, di qualunque nazionalità e origine. Questi hanno risposto alla chiamata per sfidarsi l’uno contro l’altro in rima improvvisata fino al raggiungimento di un vincitore decretato dal pubblico, con l’unico vincolo di utilizzare ciascuno la propria lingua nativa durante la competizione.
A Bijlmer, quartiere densamente popolato di Amsterdam, convivono circa 86.000 abitanti, di cui solo il 30% è di nazionalità olandese e il restante appartiene a 130 nazionalità diverse. Gli 86.000 abitanti di Bijlmer condividono palazzi, scuole, campi sportivi, supermercati e musica.
